Sixth grade – Students study the four arithmetic operations, on whole
numbers, positive functions, decimals, and negative integers. We also study statistics
and probability and develop an understanding of mean, median, modes, and average.
We also explore geometry, areas, and the perimeter of polygomes. We begin to
study one‐step algebra linear equations.
Seventh grade – Students continue the mastering of mathematical operations. In geometry they learn formulas, pythagorean theorem, surface area, and volume.
They develop skills in fractions.
Algebra – Students study the fundamental skills
and techniques that are the basic foundations for future work done in mathematics.
In class we cover real numbers, the Cartesian plane, linear equations, functions,
graphs, inequalities, polynomials, powers and roots.
Pre‐Algebra – We focus on improving basic mathematical skills. There is
an emphasis on computational skills and developing conceptual understanding
and problem solving strategies. Topics in algebra include: properties, operations,
solving equations and inequalities, simplifying polynomials and graphing.
Life Science – We explore the unity, diversity and complexity of living
forms. We study the processes of change within organisms, how they form
the same fundamental biological processes, and the impact humans have
on the environment.
