Fourth Grade
In fourth grade students will demonstrate: A knowledge that the Kingdom
of God is the saving power of God's life and love in the world. An understanding
that the Kingdom of God is for everyone. A knowledge that Jesus used parables
to tell people how to live for the Kingdom. An understanding that sin is
the greatest obstacle in each person's efforts to love God and neighbor.
An understanding that God's relationship with people throughout history
is based on unconditional love.
Fifth Grade
It is our hope that all students will grow in appreciation
of the beauty of God's world, to treat their environment responsibly and
feel confident to accept the moral and ethical challenges that are presented
to them with the advancement of technology
Religion: We study the person of Jesus as a teacher, healer,
and one who prays. The
students study the Sacraments, the Liturgical year of the Church, and the
life of our
class Saint.
Math: We continue to develop previously learned skills to solve more complex
problems. We review basic math facts and operations with the emphasis during
mid year on long division, as well as addition and subtraction of fractions.
It is
important to check homework daily.
Reading: We focus on the appreciation and understanding of Literature. Our
emphasis on vocabulary development, comprehension, and reading enrichment
is
important.
English: We engage in the reinforcement of basic grammar and sentence structures,
the appreciation of literature and poetry, and journal writings and essay
writings for
language arts development.
Spelling: We study guided unit words daily, and tests are taken in standard
cursive
writing.
Social Studies: We learn and emphasize the US regions through the study
of
geography, the explorers, colonial settlement, Revolutionary War, and the
Civil War.
Since tests are difficult, studying is essential.
Science: We study the forms and use of energy, the solar system, the changing
Earth,
the exploration of different eras of time, the different structures of life,
cells
structures and the five kingdoms of life.
